Outreachy report #33: April 2026

April was defined by the contribution period, which ran through most of the month with intern announcements at the end. After the energy of opening day in late March, the work shifted to a steadier rhythm of supporting and keeping things moving behind the scenes.

The bulk of the month was spent supporting mentors as contributions came in. This meant staying on top of community channels, answering questions from both sides, and making sure mentors felt equipped to evaluate the work coming their way. The contribution period always generates a lot of correspondence, and keeping that moving without things falling through the cracks was a consistent priority.

I also followed up with communities that had gone quiet during the sign-up stage and hadn’t submitted projects or responded to earlier outreach. These were gentle check-ins, more about keeping the relationship warm for future rounds than expecting any action at this stage.

As the contribution period drew to a close, the focus turned to intern selection, supporting mentors through the final evaluation process and making sure the right information was in place ahead of announcements. We are excited to welcome 14 interns to this round and cannot wait to see the work they do.
