The month of June was focused on internship activities, reviewing intern feedback and our bi-weekly remote chats with the intern. One of my favorite parts of the internship is the bi-weekly remote chats. As a past Outreachy intern myself, these chats were a safe space for me. I could freely ask questions and share challenges, knowing others faced similar things. Now, it’s fulfilling to see interns feeling comfortable and supported in this space.
As part of my blog writing series, I’ve been interviewing some interns from the December 2023 cohort. Listening to their experience as Outreachy interns and after is truly inspiring. The grit and determination these interns showed during the contribution and internship period is nothing short of remarkable.
I’m working on a blog post that highlights the brilliance of these Outreachy interns and how transformative the Outreachy program is. A common theme from everyone I’ve spoken with is the huge confidence boost they get after the internship. They also highlight the lasting impact of their mentors’ support, extending even beyond the internship. This powerful combination of personal growth and supportive mentorship is what truly makes Outreachy special.
Beyond blogging, I’ve been diving into the Outreachy website code. Understanding how the website works helps me support mentors better. They can navigate the site easily and get the best experience. I’ve started with a small part of the code, but I’m excited to explore more in the coming months.
Overall, June was a rewarding month. I’m excited to continue supporting mentors and share the inspiring stories from the Outreachy community in upcoming blog posts.
