As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the transformative journey that the past 12 months have been. Around this time last year, I was stepping into a new phase of life, and honestly, it had me feeling a bit apprehensive about what lay ahead. Fast forward to now, and I’m not fearful anymore. Instead, I’m feeling a mix of excitement for the future and a whole lot of gratitude for the awesome people who’ve shaped my journey.
On December 4th, we welcomed 59 amazing individuals as Outreachy interns. Watching our community grow with these new faces is a great way to conclude the year. Reading the introductions of these interns and learning about their interests evoked a sense of déjà vu. I couldn’t help but resonate with the same excitement I felt when I initially joined Outreachy. I look forward to learning more about their journeys throughout the internship.
In tandem with these new beginnings, I embarked on a journey of my own—learning Python to actively contribute to the Outreachy website. While picking up a new language can be challenging, I’m very excited to be able to dig through the code that the Outreachy community spends so much time interfacing with.
The Outreachy team engaged in a thoughtful reflection on the goals set for 2023 and laid the groundwork for the upcoming year. Personally, I have a set of ambitious goals for 2024, and while I’ll keep the details under wraps for now, they do involve a significant increase in my writing endeavors.
The experiences of the past year have been a catalyst for personal and professional growth, and I eagerly look forward to more of the same in the upcoming year.
